Away from the main content of an event, those delicious and attractive snack selections that are laid out often prove a huge draw for those in attendance. A beautiful tablecloth adorned with shiny plates of goodies; hanging fruits and sweets just waiting to be seized; a selection of miniature replicas lining innovative shelving. Event planners will have their own tried and tested favorites when it comes to Tempting Breaks, and we look at some of these through the eyes of our stereotypical characters…
The ingredients will almost always be locally sourced for Sustainable Steve, ensuring that the carbon footprint associated with them is kept to a minimum. Not only does this work on an ecological level, but that local produce also connects attendees to the whereabouts of the venue, whether it be vegetables from the farm down the road or bread from the town bakery. Then there’s Steve’s practical switch from forest-threatening palm oil to other alternatives and increased use of vegan spreads. You’ll possibly notice too that there is no sign of any plastic around his tasty bites: bottles, drinking straws and packaging have all been substituted for reusable or compostable choices.
Steve has also noticed that he’s having a big influence on the other planners, who all seem to be incorporating ‘green’ ideas.
If there’s a new trend in Tempting Breaks then Tracy is all across it. Take regenerative farming, for example. Sustainable Steve mentioned that it was becoming a ‘thing’ so Tracy now looks for ways to incorporate it into her snack offerings, and will ensure that there is explanation of it nearby. Another of her favorites fads is setting up modern refrigerated stops, with dairy treats and tasty toppings on fancy hard-boiled eggs, keeping them fresh for longer. When it comes to drinks, mocktails are a go-to choice for Tracy, with multiple infusions of ingredients such as hops and botanicals to guarantee maximum taste, with no risky after effects.
And it goes without saying that every single one of Tracy’s foodie presentations must be visually worthy of a share on Instagram.
As you can tell from her name, Michelin Mary has certain standards when it comes to food, even for the breakout snacks. Her presentation is always immaculate, occasionally with a top chef on hand to create mini-masterpieces on the spot to entice attendees as they wander past. Each of the Tempting Breaks link together with a theme, perfectly complementing each other just as a tasting menu in any top-notch establishment would. The edible delights are arranged on imaginative plates and trays, and are received more like works of art that sustenance between sessions, while she may even make a sommelier available to provide expert guidance.
When Mary’s in charge, guests can often be found discussing the elaborate snacks more than the event itself.
Classic snacks and preparation ideas are the only way forward for Traditional Tom. The treats laid out are likely straight out of his mother’s recipe book, and the presentation styles are unlikely to ever cause much of a stir. Homely, familiar staples will ensure the attendees don’t get hungry later in the day as nutritious sandwiches, filling paella, fruit & nut selections, and sensible serving utensils are lined up in front of them. Everything is delicious, of course, although there will be few surprises on show.
The world of events may be moving forward apace through the early stages of the 21st century, but Tom is more than happy to keep his guests reminded of simpler times.
As an event planner you’ll have your own ideas about what makes the perfect tempting break and will already be skilled at mixing and matching with the theme of the occasion. Work alongside a partner you can trust, one that is a blend of all the above, and develop your NH Tempting Breaks to impress your guests.
