A still-life painting of the four seasons by Javier Velles colors the ancient refectory´s vaulted ceiling. An allegory on astronomy and gastronomy, represented by the sky transitioning from night to day, and from winter to summer, is visible within twelve panels and ceiling´s stone arches. Each panel is painted with the typical bounties of every season: fruits, vegetables, fish, wines, with historical allusions to arts reminiscent of Zurbarán, Hockney, Sánchez Cotán, and Aldo Rossi. Several photographs by Alberto Garcia Alix, and watercolor paintings by José María Mezquita, reflect earlier stages of this enticing artistic project.
The El Refectorio main dining room serves up to 250 people, which has enabled the hotel to become the leader for weddings and major events in Zamora. Arrangements can be made to use all available rooms in order to cater to groups of 500 people, all served with delicious traditional products from Zamora.
