Hotels for family: Enjoy NH with your children

The best time of the year is when there's a family vacation to get away with the younger members of the family!

At NH Hotel Group we want to make that family break that much easier with our child friendly hotels. Travelling with babies and children just became hassle free and easy!

It used to be quite difficult to find a family destination that would suit everyone´s needs and tastes in food, fun and style. But nowadays there are so many options available that it´ll be a task just to choose which one suits you best. From the incredible outdoors to kid-friendly cities and of course, theme parks, which are still considered a favorite amongst the little ones.

Families, Welcome!

Our “Families, Welcome” hotels, are just that: especially welcoming for families. We take care of the basics, so that you can concentrate on the fun! Just like at home, it’s Kids First when they’re staying with us. High quality cots are available in the rooms (prior notice required) and you’ll be able to enjoy our award winning breakfast in the restaurant with the younger members of the family safely strapped into one of our highchairs. Our buffet breakfast is fun for kids too. Our Kid’s corner offers a unique selection of products as well as made to measure tableware and activity books, starring NH Hotel Group’s youngest ambassadors: Nico & Hanna.
Get to know them even before you arrive with these printable activity books: children from 3-6 years old and for children from seven years old.

Some of our “Families, Welcome” hotels are pioneers in NH Family rooms as well. These Family Rooms offer more space than a standard room in the same hotel, and provide Nico & Hanna bathroom amenities for the kids, as well as special Room service menu to cater for any requirements a growing child might have.

Family friendly TV channels are available for in room entertainment and there is now no need to wake a sleeping child for a 12pm checkout: Early check-in and Late Check out can also be arranged (subject to availability).

A head start on your break

Outside of the hotel, no matter what your destination, city or beach, there’s things to do and see! Our Family assistant within our hotels for family will be delighted to point out the best activities for the whole family to enjoy, and the best child-friendly restaurants to eat at. We’ve even gotten a head start and have Family Friendly travel guides for Berlin, Milan, Amsterdam, Brussels, Hamburg, Madrid and Barcelona. Some of the best family-friendly destinations with NH child-friendly hotels will be detailed following.

Child-friendly cities

New York

People often tend to think that New York can be an overwhelming city to visit with children, but this couldn’t be farther removed from the truth. Museums, parks, adventure playgrounds and a myriad of good food.

The MoMA makes modern art accessible to children as young as 4 years old with age-appropriate guided tours and an art laboratory where the little ones can enjoy hands-on activities.

Spend the night at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum with Operation Slumber. Scheduled to re-open in July, the Space Shuttle Pavilion is a favorite amongst children. They'll also be able to see the Enterprise, NASA’s first space shuttle.

Another excellent idea is take your children to the Children's Museum of the Arts, where they'll be inspired to do their own artwork after seeing what is on display (all artwork has been made by children). There are plenty of spaces available where they can create, play and even enjoy the guided tours for children.

While spending an afternoon in Central Park make sure to walk to the Alice in Wonderland statue and move on towards Union Square to eat. Considered a mecca for foodies, there are plenty of kid-friendly stalls and eateries.

The list is endless: Coney Island, The Adventure Playground, the incredible American Museum of Natural History, Teardrop Park, the Brooklyn Bridge and open-air sculptures kids will be pleased to discover such as the Cyclone Twist, Balloon Flower.

Make sure you check all the free activities going on throughout Spring and Summer. Remember, New York City offers kid and family train and travel passes. Stay at the NH Collection New York Madison Avenue, a perfect hotel for family and an unbeatable place that is walking distance from major New York attractions.

Berlin

In addition to recommending hotels for family, we want to offer you some plans to do with children in Berlin. The German capital has also been ranked as the best European city for kids. There´s so much to do, you´ll have to sit down together and make a list. And don´t forget to rent bikes to get around from one place to the next. That will make it a family vacation memorable. Start your vacation in Postdamer Platz, home of the indoor Legoland Park with adventure rides and structures made entirely out of Lego pieces. Here, children are urged to show off their creative side and build their very own.

The AquaDom and Sea Life Centre will make your kids´ jaws drop when they discover over 3.000 creatures from the deep blue. If your children are a bit older, a good idea is to take them to the skateboard parks or city beaches where they´ll be able to play ping-pong and board games on hammocks.

Berlin´s best playground for families is Kollwitz Platz. Gigantic toys, plenty of green space to play freely and a local farmers’ market where you can buy your picnic.

Amsterdam

Stay in our best hotel for family, the Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky Amsterdam, and discover all the options that this city offers you. Amsterdam is fun just because you get to ride your bike everywhere. And there is plenty to do and see for the entire family. One of the city´s favorites amongst children is the Nemo Science Museum where kids of all ages will enjoy the chemistry lab; play at solving mysteries with DNA technology and play amongst the giant soap bubbles.

Hop on a canal cruise; visit the world´s narrowest building or Klimpark Fun Forest, where the entire family can experience the thrill of climbing tress. If it gets too hot, Amsterdam has many great indoor and outdoor pools where to spend the day. A few of our favorites are: Sloterparkbad, located near a scenic lake and Flevoparkbad in Amsterdam Oost.

How about an afternoon of old-fashioned puppet shows at the Kook Kneus Theatre or a course at Amsterdam´s circus for children? The Circus Elleboog is a circus school that offers many activities and performances.

If you still have time and energy to be spent, visit any of the dozen petting zoos in the city or head out to Kinderkookkafé, where your kids will become chefs in a day and make their very own pancakes.

Brussels

Brussels is the last city on our list. We chose it because it´s easy to get around, laid back and seems especially designed to cater to children of all ages. Once you arrive, make sure you pick up a copy of the Kids Gazette or the Brussels guide for kids. Head out to the Chocolate Museum or the Belgium Comic Strip Centre. Brussels even has a Toy Museum and a fabulous Aquarium. This city is another place where picnics can turn into real adventures. There are so many parks, gardens and playgrounds; you wont have time to visit them all.

If there is one thing on your list of things to do in Brussels, make the Children's Museum a must. It organizes exhibits where children play, participate and learn different games that let their imaginations run wild.
