Burgos is a noble city in Castilla, founded by Count Diego Rodríguez. The monument Arco de Santa Maria was built in memory of the Count, one of the twelve medieval gates that allowed access to the centre of Burgos. Past the arch, currently an Exhibition Hall, visitors can enjoy the magnificent Burgos Cathedral preserved in perfect condition. In this Cathedral lie the remains of Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, "El Cid Campeador" and his wife Doña Jimena.
Among the many charms of this medieval city, you cannot miss out on visiting the medieval castle built in 884 A.D by King Alfonso III. From the viewpoint of the Castillo de Burgos (Burgos Castle), you can enjoy excellent views of the entire city.
Beautiful parks surround the city of Burgos, but the Paseo de La Isla is the one that stands out the most. It is considered to be its botanical garden.
You cannot leave town without visiting the museo de la Evolución Humana (Museum of Human Evolution), the epicentre of "Atapuerca System Culture of Evolution", where you can find remains of prehistoric origin of the Sierra de Atapuerca.
