What to see in Paris?
It almost goes without saying. The Eiffel Tower, long an internationally recognized symbol of the city, remains a marvelous sight to behold. While simply glancing at the historic monument is an awe-inspiring experience, there are also guided tours available, and visitors can take an elevator to the top of the tower.
Paris has the largest art museum in the world: the famous Louvre Museum. Located in a building that used to be the home to multiple French kings, the Louvre now houses some of the greatest masterpieces in the history of art, perhaps most famously the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci and the ancient Greek sculpture Venus de Milo.
The Arc de Triomphe, located at the western end of the Champs-Élysées Avenue, is another of the monuments in Paris that enjoys worldwide fame. It was built between 1806 and 1836 to honor those who served in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. Climbing the steps to its panoramic terrace offers one of the most magnificent views over the city.
Located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, the Place de la Concorde is the largest public square in the city. It has historically been an important gathering place in the French capital and features stunning monuments like the Luxor Obelisk, the Fontaine des Mers and the Fontaine des Fleuves.
Just off the Place de la Concorde, you may find the Jardin des Tuileries, one of the most popular and charming green spaces in Paris. It has been a public park since 1667 and remains a go-to spot to go for a stroll or simply relax while enjoying the views of its beautifully maintained flowers, gardens and shrubs.
The flagship Galeries Lafayette store in the 9th arrondissement of Paris is not only one of the largest department stores in the world but also one of the most beautiful. Visit it both for its luxury brand stores (including Louis Vuitton and Dior) and for the art-noveau building itself, with its marvelous dome and panoramic views over the city. You will also find an impressive gastronomical offer there.
The Opéra Garnier, also known as the Palais Garnier, is one of the most luxurious and opulent theaters you will ever see. The gorgeous building itself has become one of the most emblematic buildings in Paris, and, with capacity for almost 2,000 people, it regularly hosts performances by the Paris Opera Ballet.
Let us remind you that when you stay at any of our hotels in Paris Centre you will be in a perfect location to reach any of these attractions (and many more).
What to eat in Paris?
Discovering the gastronomy of Paris is as necessary for having a quintessential experience in the city as any of the previous points of interest. Let us first mention their famous pastries and breads: croissants, macarons, pain au chocolat, baguettes, soufflé … there’s so much to love—and that truly represents Paris—just when it comes to baked goods alone.
Moving on to main dishes, there is also an abundance of choices. Escargot, foie gras, and steak tartare are all local specialties that truly convey the essence of Paris. For particularly hearty and comforting local dishes, be sure to try soupe á l’oignon (French onion soup) and beef bourguignon, a beef stew that, while having its origins in Burgundy, has become a mainstay in the cuisine of the French capital.
How to arrive in Paris?
Paris is served by three international airports. The main one, the Charles de Gaulle Airport (CGD), is the airport that handles the second most passengers in all of Europe. The second most important international airport in Paris is the Orly Airport (ORY) while the Beauvais–Tillé Airport (BVA) is a smaller airport located 53 miles north of Paris.
You can also arrive in Paris by train from most countries in the region, including Spain, Belgium, Germany, and the U.K. Buses to Paris are also available departing from many European capitals.
How to get around in Paris?
While walking is a particularly rewarding way of exploring this gorgeous city and our hotels are withing walking distance from many major points of interest, Paris also has a very extensive public transport system that will allow you to move through the entire city with ease.
The metro is the fastest way to get around in Paris. However, the public transport options also include buses, tramways, taxis (available all over the city and 24 hours a day), and the Paris Regional RER train, which is particularly useful for reaching the different airports from the city center.
You may also rent a car while in Paris, which would be particularly useful if you are planning on visiting other parts of France during your visit. For parking, you have the options of on-street paid parking and underground car parks. Remember that the Crit’Air certificate is mandatory: all cars must have the sticker displaying the pollution level that it has been assigned.
