What to see in Seville?

The Royal Alcázar of Seville is one of the most emblematic of the city’s landmarks; you won’t want to miss it. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a royal palace that was originally built for Peter of Castile. Its structure displays a fascinating variety of architectural styles. Reserve a tour to marvel at its gorgeous rooms.&

Adjoining the Alcázar is the Seville Cathedral, the world’s largest Gothic church. The sheer scale of this gorgeous structure is sure to leave you stunned. Plus, it’s so detailed that you’ll find intricate beauty in all its corners.

The Museum of Fine Arts of Seville exhibits an impressive collection of primarily Spanish visual art, spanning from Medieval times through the 20th century. Of particular importance is its selection of works from the Golden Age of Sevillian painting of the 17th century. Its building—a sight to behold on its own—was built in 1594 and previously served to house a convent.

Take a stroll through Plaza de España, yet another of Seville’s architectural marvels. This beautiful semi-circular square was built for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929 and features impressive fountains, a moat, and traditional Sevillian tiles (azulejos). It’s one of the most picturesque and emblematic places to see in Seville.

The famous Triana neighborhood—located on the west bank of the Guadalquivir River, opposite to Seville’s historic center—has its own unique character and cultural offerings. Here you’ll find memorable landmarks like the emblematic Triana Bridge, the popular market known as the Mercado de Triana, and the Plaza de Altozano with its famous statue of a flamenco dancer.

The Torre del Oro (Golden Tower) is a military watchtower from the 13th century originally constructed to control access into Seville. The iconic structure offers a glimpse into the city’s past and features a panoramic terrace with impressive views over the Guadalquivir River and the Triana District. It also houses the Maritime Museum, where you can learn more about the history of the tower and the port of Seville.

What to eat in Seville?

Seville’s gastronomy—which offers prime displays of Andalusian cuisine and tapas culture—is one of the city’s main attractions. Some of the city’s most popular specialties include espinacas con garbanzos (spinach with chickpeas, particularly popular during the winter and as a tapa), presa ibérica (a cut of pork from the top of the shoulder) and salmorejo, a cold tomato soup that’s similar to gazpacho but thicker.

Ramón Lopez’ Antigua Abacería de San Lorenzo is one of the best spots in the city to try authentic local dishes. Other local restaurants to visit include the seemingly always busy Eslava and El Rinconcillo, which has been serving traditional Andalusian cuisine since 1670.

If you’re flying into Seville, you’ll arrive at the Seville Airport (SVQ), which operates routes with many major international destinations. It’s located 10 kilometers east of Seville’s city center, which you can easily reach through a 35-minute bus ride or a 15-minute drive.
