Things to do in Albufeira, Algarve

There are several earthly paradises on our planet, some of them closer than we think. It’s not always necessary to get on a plane for hours to enjoy dreamy landscapes and activities, as if they belonged to another world. In fact, the southern coast of Portugal is home to one of the main attractions on the peninsula: Albufeira, the main city in the beautiful Algarve region.

The best of Albufeira

Albufeira is a coastal city that belongs to the district of Faro, in the Portuguese region of the Algarve. This area is characterized by its beautiful coastal scenes, with endless white sandy beaches and impossible rock formations. Its origins as a fishing village are in the distant past, and today it’s one of the main tourist spots in Portugal.

Even so, the essence of its old town is preserved in the center consisting of white houses that climb a steep hill crowned by a church at the top. It’s a typical Algarve village, though nowadays it has become a city full of restaurants, little shops, and all kinds of services. In conclusion, there are so many things to do in Albufeira.

The low season or midseason are ideal for enjoying Albufeira without crowded places or bustling streets, to see the most picturesque part of a town of great beauty. Getting lost among its little bars and trying the most famous fish(the cod is a must) in the region is something you can’t miss. In addition to strolling along its streets you’ll find many activities in Albufeira to do in its surroundings.

What to do in Albufeira

Without a doubt, discovering its beaches or “praias” is one of the essential things to do in Albufeira. Small charming coves and rock formations that will set your imagination free until you discover what animal it looks like...

In addition to its beaches, one excellent option is to follow a path that allows you to discover the many caves along its coastline. The Benagil Cave is the most impressive. This and others await you if you hire some kind of water vessel to take to them. From jet skis to traditional boats, it's a good way to get to know the coast in a different way.

If you like marine fauna, don’t miss a boat tour that allows you to see dolphins in their natural habitat. Tours for watching these beautiful cetaceans leave from the Albufeira marina. But it’s not the only sea-related activity; you can opt for all different kinds of water sports activities. One of the most popular is parasailing, which—in addition to the adrenaline rush—gives you beautiful views of the beach and the entire coastline of the Algarve.
