Art and Artefacts at the Rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum includes more than 2000 paintings from the Dutch Golden Age, displaying works by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Ruisdael as well as many more. Rembrandt's The Night Watch is perhaps the most famous piece in the Rijksmuseum collection, mounted in its own Night Watch Room.
But the museum is not just limited to paintings. The latest addition to the Rijksmuseum is the Philips Wing, which caters to more modern art styles, including photography exhibitions. A 20th century gallery housed in the Philips Wing also includes numerous historical objects and artefacts, such as an FK 23 Bantam plane, plus furniture, china and sculptures. Meanwhile, the Asian Pavilion houses a variety of Asian statues and ornaments, including an ancient Shiva Nataraja.

The Rijksmuseum Gardens, Canal Cruises and Useful Information

The museum is situated within extensive gardens that are home to many ornate sculptures. In addition, visitors can take a Rijksmuseum canal cruise with the Blue Boat Company, essentially a floating art history audio tour. The canal cruise has a 33.50 euro fee which includes entrance to the museum. Without the canal cruise, the standard admission fee for the Rijksmuseum is 17.50 euros. There is also an additional five euro ticket for a multimedia tour.
Visitors can reach the museum by tram. From Central Station, take trams 2 or 5 to the Rijksmuseum stop. Alternatively, you can take tram 5 from Zuid Station. The Rijksmuseum is located in Museum Square and various other popular attractions lie in its immediate vicinity, including the Van Gogh Museum and the Concertgebouw.
