It’s one of only a few true malls in the city however what Barcelona lacks in numbers it makes up for in quality. This mall elegantly stretches along Avenida Diagonal and has been delighting customers since the 1990s with its impressive array of shops as well as restaurants and cafés to rest the occasional weary legs. It is also home to the most appetizing of delicatessens, El Rebost de L’illa, situated below ground level offering fresh Spanish produce, exotic foreign treats and, for me the best part, plenty of food and wine tasting opportunities.

So, if you’re in search of the latest tech gadgets, trendy sports clothing, or maybe an unusual taste of Catalonia to take back home, L’illa Diagonal can almost certainly provide you with the ideal solution. Fashion options include classy underwear boutiques of Intimissimi and Calzedonia; shoe heaven in the form of Camper and Lindsey; and stylish menswear brought to you by Macson and Diesel, although this hardly scratches the surface. The mall also provides free Wi-Fi for customers so a great chance to catch up on your emails or the latest news over a coffee.

Mainstream mall and Spanish jewel

Another popular mall is Pedralbes, just 10-minutes’ walk from the hotel. Mango, Clarks, Timberland and Zara give that mainstream feel but its four floors provide plenty more local selections too. Within its confines also sits the Spanish shopping jewel that is El Corte Inglés, a department store with unrivaled choice across products and brands.
It’s worth noting that shops in Barcelona open later in the morning than those of other cities around Europe, usually by 10:00, with some exceptions. They are, however, also open later in the evening, often till 21:00, so you still have plenty of time to make your purchases or just look around the windows.

Finally, for some a trip to Barcelona would not be complete without a souvenir from the official club shop of one of the biggest brands in world soccer.
