Manneken Pis Brussels: The city’s most famous statue
The Manneken Pis in Brussels is the most famous statue in the city, and also one of the cities most visited attractions. The statue, which depicts a small boy urinating into a fountain of water, has stood here since approximately 1618, and is much beloved by locals and visitors alike. Though it’s a fine piece of work, Brussels' Manneken Pis is noted more for the legends and stories that surround the statue, rather than its quality as a work of art. The statue plays an important role in the celebrations that take place throughout the year in Brussels; if you visit during one of these holidays, you may see the statue dressed in a special outfit or even spouting beer instead of water.
