Brussels, the city famous as being a European business hub provides plenty of fun and interest for the younger members of the family.

Belgium rarely lets its visitors leave without some lasting memories and for its capital, Brussels, this is particularly true. And not just for the grown-ups. From chocolate to comics and music, there's so much for the younger members of the family to do as well.

Belgian chocolate inspired family fun

No matter what your age, the idea of visiting a chocolate museum is attractive to most, and certainly acts as a perfect way to get children up and out of the hotel early. Belgian chocolate is world-renowned and you can experience the delicious wares of the country’s artisan chocolatiers at the Musée du Cacao et du Chocolat. If that visit proves successful it’s worth noting that you can also purchase more of the brown stuff from the shops Pierre Marcolini and Neuhaus in town.

Comic book characters line the streets

The chocolate intake can be the ideal energy boost to get everyone enthusiastic about taking a stroll. But the Comic Book Tour is not just any old stroll. Walk and listen while you take a unique wander through the streets of Belgium where you’ll be confronted by over 50 huge wall murals featuring classic animated characters, like Tin Tin. Follow that journey with a visit to the Center for Comic Strip Art where you can learn more about the paintings you’ve seen along the way.

The real fun behind science and geography

From comics to dinosaurs, Brussels fills the imagination of little minds and the Muséum des Sciences Naturelles gives them the chance to play in sand and try to locate archaeological items like hidden fossils. They’ll also have the chance to see 21st century urban animals up close and get involved in some educational, but very fun, games on the interactive carpet. More enjoyable learning comes in the form of Mini-Europe, a fascinating look at the continent with all its key features located in one park.

Music lovers meet historians at the MIM

If your child has a keen interest in music, or historical artifacts, take them along to the Musée des Instruments de Musique, known as the “MIM”. It is housed in an impressive building and you’ll be amazed by the diverse items in the collection while you learn the story of music across the 19th and 20th centuries.

Green space to stretch those little legs

Any parent knows the importance of giving their kids the chance to burn off some energy and, for this, Brussels gives you the wonderful Egmont Park, which transports you away from the urban bustle and provides green space to run, play or relax. Inside the park you’ll find the Orangerie, with an optional terrace for sunny days and where you can ensure everyone has enough sustenance and refreshment to make it back to the hotel. There's other green spaces spread all over the city near other landmarks as well.
