Football is one of the most important and well loved sports in the country and it is highly revered in Hamburg. With its two main teams, Hamburger SV and FC St. Pauli, the city offers a range of amazing opportunities regarding the sport. Hamburger SV is part of the Bundesliga while FC St. Pauli competes in the 2nd Bundesliga, meaning both teams offer sport events in Hamburg at their home stadiums to which tickets can be acquired. Hamburger SV’s home turf is at the Volksparkstadion, an enormous structure with a capacity of 57 000, a size worthy of the Olympic Summer Games. Hamburg’s Haspa Marathon

The Haspa Marathon is among the best loved sport events in Hamburg and it is one that you can view from a distance or even take part in. Established in 1986, it has grown from the initial 8,000 participants to over 25,000. On the 17th of April, the city’s streets are overrun by the participants in the event. Remember to register in advance for the marathon if you wish to take part, however you can also view this sporting event from the sidelines among the many thousands of other spectators. If you are unable to attend in April you can also attend the Hella Hamburg Half Marathon which takes place on June 26th. The half marathon is among the most spectacular annual sport events in Hamburg and it promises outstanding entertainment for both for participants and onlookers who are led from attraction to attraction through the city along the course of the race.
