3 days in Lisbon: a practical guide for your visit

Lisbon in 3 days: With these tips you’ll be able to organize your time in the best way possible.

Day 1

Start by visiting the Alfama district. There are free tours, as animated as they are full of surprises, that will give you an in-depth insight into the area. Walk through its streets, not forgetting to take the Feira da Ladra - a trail along which you can find everything: the national pantheon, the cathedral, the castle of San Jorge and the magnificent Santa Lucía viewing point. Descend to your next destination, and eat in any cafe in the Rua do Comercio area. Stop at A Brasileira to check out the statue of Fernando Pessoa, the immortal Lisbon writer.

Take advantage of the afternoon to go to the Plaza del Comercio, after seeing the Rossio square and riding the Elevador de Santa Justa, a lift that allows you to contemplate unique views of the river Tagus. Retrace your steps back up to Barrio Alto to dine in a typical locale.

Day 2

Devote it to the Belem district. You can get there by public transport, and while walking to the Jerónimos monastery you can stop by a cafe to try the famous cream cakes. In front of this religious building you’ll find the Torre de Belem, a tower dedicated to the conquerors. Don’t forget to visit the museums in the area. We recommend the carriage museum and the national archaeology museum.

Day 3

The Park of the Nations is the place where the Universal Exposition was held, and is without a doubt the most modern part of Lisbon. There’s a shopping center, contemporary buildings, an aquarium and a park where you can play with your children. Spend the morning in this area, and then head back to the city center in the afternoon to do your last-minute shopping before returning home.

Weekend in Lisbon

We urge you not to miss the Belem, Barrio Alto and Alfama districts. The rest we leave up to you. If you’re one of those who love walking and moving about throughout the day, try taking a trip or two to Sintra, Estoril or Cascais.

Lisbon in 48 hours

The metro from the airport connects with the line that goes to the Park of the Nations, so, depending on your arrival schedule, you can make the most of your time. Devote the day of your arrival to walking through Alfama and down to the Rua do Comercio to explore every nook and cranny and soak up the essence of the city. On the second day, go to Belem in the morning and say your farewells to the city while thinking about when you’ll come back.

We hope your upcoming Lisbon getaway will be the first of many visits to a city where the saudade will enchant you from the first moment.
