Where to eat in the capital
Although there are quality restaurants and prices of all kinds in every area of the city, the Alfama district has a host of bars and restaurants where you can enjoy tasting the best of Lisbon's cuisine.
At Santa Clara Market, for instance, we recommend you to visit the Santa Clara dos Cogumelos, an original restaurant where all the dishes are based on one raw material: mushrooms.
In Barrio Alto you mustn’t miss 100 Maneiras, an incredible restaurant where you can enjoy a ten course tasting menu for €58/person. This establishment, run by the chefLjubomir Stanisic, is one of the most well-known restaurants in Lisbon.
While you’re still in Barrio Alto, you must visit the Cervejaria Trindade, a former 13th century monastery converted into a brewery that is a popular destination for tourists.
And continuing in the line of old reconstructed buildings, we also recommend Pharmacia, a former pharmacy that has been restored and is now a restaurant. With its very special decor, it’s a very interesting place to eat.
If you’d like to taste something typical and enjoy a truly Portuguese experience accompanied by the typical Portuguese fado, you mustn’t miss the Tasca do Chico or the Bacalhau De Molho restaurant, located in the Casa de Linhares.
The food markets are perhaps the best places to try out dishes of all kinds, since you’ll find a wide variety of recipes and atmospheres here. We especially recommend visiting the Mercado da Ribeira and Campo de Ourique.
