Art in the heart of Madrid’s Golden Mile
If this is your first trip to Madrid a visit to the Art triangle, made up of the Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofía museums, is a must. Stroll down one of Madrid’s main arteries, and travel in the world of art from the Middle Ages to modern times.
If you have already explored these collections, or are racing against the clock a nearby option that I always recommend is the National Archaeological Museum (Museo Arqueológico Nacional). It may not be as known to tourists but is considered one of the best in Madrid.
It’s a 5 minute walk from the NH Collection Madrid Colón, and behind it you’ll also be able to see the imposing façade of the National Library, (La Biblioteca Nacional). In the museum itself, the Lady of Elche, or Dama de Elche, is one of the most renowned pieces of the collection. After exploring, be sure to see if there are any temporary exhibitions at the National Library. Some of them are definitely worth a visit! Another of Madrid’s hidden gems is the Museo Lázaro Galdiano. Here you will be able to enjoy works of Goya, El Greco, or Zurbarán without the crowds of the larger museums.
