Milan welcomes children of all ages

Green open spaces with secrets of the natural world, both modern and prehistoric, provide fun for all the family and if there’s a special Italian pastry at the end of the adventure parents will be even more popular.

The NH Concierge’s Tips

A stay at our NH Collection Milano President hotel in the heart of Milan opens up all kinds of interesting adventures for the younger members of the family. And it all starts in the parks

Milan’s green lung, full of fish

Wide-open green space in a bustling metropolis can sometimes be hard to come by but a slick 10-minute ride on the underground will have you at one of the magnificent entrances into Milan’s gorgeous city park, Parco Sempione. Running around in the lush grass, hiding behind any one of the hundreds of tree varieties, and nibbling away at some tasty picnic treats next to the attractive lake, can all help fill the hours while expending much of that kept energy. But Parco Sempione has so much more to offer than just space.
Being the largest park in the city affords it the luxury of providing you with more entertainment. The century-old Acquario Civico is home to over 100 species of fish that capture the attention and imagination of children as they dart around the aquariums. With their exotic colors and sometimes amusing shapes, listen as your young dears interact with them, give them names and decide on their favorites.

Prehistoric secrets among many

Another green area with more to offer than space to run around are the Porta Venezia public gardens where you’ll come across the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale, Milan’s much-loved natural history museum. Over 5,000 square meters of animals, vegetables and minerals mean plenty to see, and these are neatly divided up into six parts. Special mention must go to the hall dedicated to prehistoric life, which includes an awesome Tyrannosaurus Rex that always draws the crowd. I have to say, though, that my personal preference is the section of the Amazon Rain Forest – with its very own anaconda display.

Milan pastry to complete the fun

Although the daily option of homemade pizzas and pastas will bring plenty of pleasure to many a young palate, let me point you in the direction of another eatery that is sure to put a smile of their faces. The delicious treats on display at Cova, a bakery on Via Montenapoleone, will have mouths watering before the tasting begins and you can throw in an added story about it being the place for artists and other famous personalities to hangout to add to its coolness.

These are just a few ideas to help you keep the children happy during your stay but Milan has plenty more to offer. Speak with us on your arrival and we’d be delighted to share further recommendations.
