Italy’s cultural metropolis of fashion and design

Outstanding opera in La Scala, priceless paintings in Milanese museums, classic cuisine Italian style, and fabulous fashion to suit any taste. What a trip Milan offers any visitor.

The NH Concierge’s Tips

Welcome to the NH Collection Milano President hotel in the heart of Milan from where you can truly experience everything the city has to offer. All the main attractions are within walking distance from our doors and where better to start than by checking out the incredible shops. Milan is one of the most important fashion cities in the world and you can feel the style vibes for yourself in the exclusive Via Montenapoleone, stocked full of top luxury international brands.

Roman culture: from the modern to the macabre to the spectacular

A more local “Made in Italy” option is found in the Brera district with quaint Italian boutiques selling clothes and accessories as well as designer furniture. All budgets are catered for on Corso Buenos Aires and for anyone looking for more, there is a regular bus to the fashion outlets of Serravalle and Fox Town – 90 minutes travel for a full day of shopping heaven.

Art and culture in abundance

Milan, so much more than a shopping city, has to be explored to discover its artistic soul and the Piazza del Duomo, just 10 minutes from the hotel, is home to the Palazzo Reale, with new exhibitions every month; the 20th century art-focused Museo del Novecento; and the less famous, but certainly not less fascinating, Palazzo della Ragione, which displays captivating photography. If interested in the history of art there is a walking tour that starts at the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, with its classical paintings collection, moves on to the historical Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera and finishes at the famous Cenacolo Vinciano, where you can enjoy the splendor of the evocative L'Ultima Cena fresco, The Last Supper.

Milan can also provide a cultural evening that would be hard to beat around the world. Get your glad rags on and head to La Scala for an unforgettable operatic performance in the most wonderful of surroundings – and don’t worry about not understanding, they kindly provide live subtitles on the back of every seat.

Quality dining and Italians go hand-in-hand

You’re in Italy so the importance of eating well cannot be underestimated and Milan provides a host of experiences. I’d suggest you take a stroll down the old streets in the Brera neighborhood and stop at any one of the restaurants for a delicious risotto and perfect accompanying wine. To appreciate the Milanese way of life it’s important that you partake in the aperitif custom – usually between 18:00 and 21:00 – while mingling with the locals, many of whom will have just finished their working day.

As a guest in our hotel you are also fortunate enough to have the elegance of the Verziere restaurant right on your doorstep with the finest local and international dishes available. For a drink and a snack we also have the contemporary Bar Le Colonne in the lobby where we take pride in our specialist Milanese cocktails. If you’re just looking for a coffee and pastry there are fewer better places than Cova, a bakery on Via Montenapoleone with exquisite treats to choose from. It has a long history and was once a hangout for artists and other famous personalities.

As the sun sets, Milan’s nightlife takes over

For later in the evening the Corso Como complex and Piazza Moscova place you at the heart of the Italian movida, where locals take in happy hour and you have the choice of numerous cocktail bars and disco clubs. Have a drink at the courtyard of the fashionable Corso Como 10 or maybe try out the legendary Bar Basso, where the cocktail Sbagliato was born.

Green open spaces for family fun or relaxation

The parks of Milan give a complete contrast to the busy city life and the historical Parco Sempione allows for escapism with a purpose whether that be an early morning run or a place to entertain the younger members of the family. As the city’s largest, there is so much to see and do, with the 15th century (originally 13th century before rebuilds) Castello Sforzesco a magnificent welcome as you enter. Another of the great features of the park is the Acquario Civico which houses over 100 types of fish that children love to watch swim and play. The grounds of Giardini Pubbliciis are an alternative to Sempione and is where you’ll find the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale. Here you can marvel at real dinosaur skeletons or learn about the fascinating details of how mankind reached the present day.

Time for a trip, try a cruise

If you get the chance to head out of the city for the day then one place I always recommend is the town of Como. It’s become rather well known in recent years and rightly so for the chance to cruise across the enchanting lake, eat in fabulous restaurants and generally just lose yourself in the spectacularly beautiful views. The villages of Varenna and Bellagio will take your breath away. It takes about an hour to get there on the regional train but I can promise the return journey will be filled with your superlative reviews.

About Federica Bello

I am Federica and I have been working in Guest Relations at NH Collection President since 2014. What I like most about my job is the direct contact I have everyday with the guests, understanding their needs and exceeding their expectations, offering the best experience they can find in Milan. I like to think of it as having a new person in town and I want to show them the best spots of my city. Then, the reward is when I meet the guests afterwards and they are happy with what I recommended. It is not only about giving information but also gifting them memories to take home. This is the kind of experience that I love to guarantee. Something unique to share with friends and one that they will keep talking about it.
