From dusk till sleep in Milan

From summer terraces for an evening bite, to fresh cocktails amidst the soothing tones of a local jazz band, the Navigli district is here to keep you up as late as you want

The NH Concierge’s Tips

When you arrive in Italy's northern Lombardy metropolis of Milan your daytime hours can be filled with fashion, design, art and architecture. And as our Guest Relations Manager, Desislava Bankova, at the nhow Milano hotel explains, once the sun disappears behind the majestic buildings of the neighborhood, another side to the city emerges.

Milan’s comfortable nightlife core

There is no question that the nightlife hub of Milan is the lively district of Navigli. It’s stacked with an eclectic assortment of bars, clubs and eateries which makes singling out a few seem unfair on so many others where I’ve enjoyed some fantastic evenings. In saying that, there’s no doubt that you’ll be impressed by Al Fresco on Via Savona, a spot that offers a comfortable and cozy way to enjoy a drink or meal later in the day and, if the weather permits, tempts you with a delightful wooden-layered terrace for some open-air dining.

Inspiration through cocktails and jazz

Another favorite of mine, Rita and Cocktails, on Via Angelo Fumagalli, will entice you with their attractively presented aperitifs but, as you may imagine, they take a lot of pride in their amazing cocktail selection. Pick one of their original mixes, watch them delight in carefully blending it together, and then sit back and enjoy as you take in the very cool surroundings. The ingredients are fresh and natural, and those geniuses behind the bar will make you feel like a regular with their enthusiastic welcome. Leaving the bar is the biggest challenge!

More cocktails, this time with a different vibe, will aim to seduce you at the Blue Note Milano Jazz Club. This very funky venue sits on Via Pietro Borsieri and allows you to enjoy some of the finest musicians along with your preference from a very refined menu. The tuna tataki or mini gnocchi dishes often get my vote. Finish off the night with one of over 200 cocktails on offer and, if you’re like me, check their calendar before you go to read up on the evening’s act. It can give you a whole extra sense of occasion.

Big screen ending to a Milanese day

An evening movie is another way to relax after a busy day and there are three that provide you with a mix of native and original language movies. First up, Cinema Mexico, which is just around the corner from our nhow Milano hotel, an art-deco style theater that only has one screen but more often than not presents impactful shows that you’ll find hard to forget. A few extra steps away from the hotel are the Orfeo Multisala and the Cinema Ducale, both more mainstream and offering the latest blockbusters as well as some lesser-known independent screenings. It’s worth checking out the Ducale schedule when you arrive as you may also have the option of some ballet or national theater performances if that is to your taste.
