La Scala opera and concerts

The annual season at La Scala traditionally begins on the seventh of December. Celebrated historical masterpieces of the operatic repertoire such as Beethoven's Fidelio, Mozart's Lucio and Verdi's Aida are often performed as part of the opera house's programme. The theatre also presents a variety of symphonic and academic concerts and recitals. The admission fees for the concerts vary considerably and can range from 6 euros to 150 euros depending on the performance and choice of seat.

La Scala museum and tours

For visitors without tickets for the theatre, the Museo Teatrale alla Scala provides a glimpse of the building's history. It includes a collection of historical musical instruments, set designs, paintings, ceramic pieces and board games that were once played in the theatre's foyer. The standard museum admission price is 9 euros.  Admission also grants the visitor access to view the auditorium from the theatre boxes so long as performances or rehearsals are not in progress.
When visiting the museum you should allow yourself a couple of hours to fully explore the history of La Scala. Live performances vary in duration, with the running times of some operas in excess of 3 hours. To reach La Scala using the metro, take line 3 from the Duomo station or line 1 from the Cordusio station.
