Italian fashion from the heart

Whether you’re looking for top-end brands, mainstream labels or second-hand clothing at a giant flea market, Rome offers it all within its charming, bustling streets

The NH Concierge’s Tips

Our NH Collection Vittorio Veneto hotel sits proudly overlooking the fabulous green space of Villa Borghese to the north and to the south offers our guests an unrivaled shopping experience as soon as they step out of our doors. Situated at the entrance to the street that shares the same name as the hotel, the options available open up with stunning boutiques that line this well-known boulevard. Looking for a vintage pair of shoes? Or maybe a unique handmade scarf to complete your look? Via Vittorio provides you with an ideal selection of hip shops to top up your style wardrobe while in between purchases gives you plenty of cute cafés and fun bars to keep you refueled. Casuccio e Scalera is, for me, a perfect example of traditional Italian craftsmanship and deserves a special mention on the street you may recognize from the classic film, La Dolce Vita.

Narrow street, wide variety

One of Rome’s most visited shopping thoroughfares has to be Via del Corso, just 15 minutes or so from the hotel by foot. There you will be welcomed by many familiar mainstream brands including Swatch, Mango, Intimissimi, H&M and Zara as well as a great choice of Italian names such as Luisa Spagnoli and Carpisa. There’s no shortage of designer boutiques either on possibly Rome’s longest street and I would recommend you have a look in Gazelle (Via del Corso 30), the place I always go for Italian leather goods. There’s rarely a moment during opening hours when there’s not a buzz throughout this narrow walkway and it’s worth a visit for that reason alone.

Market insight to local Rome

If you’d prefer to step away from the main shopping areas for something a little different, take a Sunday morning trip down to the neighborhood of Trastevere for the Porta Portese flea market. With over 1,000 vendors you’ll find it difficult to leave without buying a little souvenir or tasty bite while you peruse stalls of antiques, musical items, classic magazines and second-hand clothing to name not even enough to scratch the surface. The market opens at 06:00, which is when I like to arrive, and the bustling atmosphere winds down by 14:00. Just in time to find a great spot for lunch.
