How's the weather in the Algarve

Algarve is a sought-after region for travelers in large part for its amazing year-round weather. It features warm summers and mild winters: the hottest month in the Algarve, July, has an average temperature of 23.5ºC while the coldest month, January, averages a 12ºC temperature.

The Algarve also gets very little rainfall, with most of it coming between November and March. This means visitors get to enjoy idyllic sun-filled beaches throughout most of the year.

What to see in the Algarve?

While the Algarve features a multitude of gorgeous beaches, Praia da Marinha is one of the most spectacular ones. In addition to its golden sand and turquoise sea waters, Praia da Marinha features stunning limestone cliffs and a cliffside path that you can walk on.

The southwesternmost point in Europe, the Cape St. Vincent in Vila do Bispo stands 75 meters above the ocean and offers some of the most amazing ocean views you’ll ever experience. The cape also features a lighthouse and a museum dedicated to its history.

The charming Old Town of Lagos features lovely cobbled streets, street cafés, plenty of shops, an amazing fresh food market (featuring fish from the surrounding waters), and the stunning Lagos Walls fortifications from the 16th century. It proves that there’s much more to the Algarve than its beaches.

Located in Loulé, the Church of São Lourenço is an 18th century Baroque church with a truly magnificent interior. Its walls and ceiling, completely covered in azulejos, and its gold-leaf altar are a sight to behold.

The Praia de Dona Ana, located near the Lagos town, is one of the Algarve’s most impressive beaches. It features calm waters, perfect for swimming.

The Benagil Caves, in the small fishing village of Benagil, are one of the most unforgettable and unique sights in the Algarve. Marvel at the huge sea caves, which open up directly onto the sea.

Another of the Algarve’s many gorgeous beaches, Praia do Camilo stands out for the stunning rock formations that surround it. You can reach it via a staircase of around 200 steps—be sure to take in the wonderful views before descending.

What to eat in the Algarve?

The Algarve has an impressive gastronomic offering, well known for its seafood dishes (like grilled sardines and salt cod) as well as for the pasteis de nata (custard tarts). It features several Michelin-starred restaurants along with more lowkey options.

Adega Dom Pipas in Albufeira is a cozy family-run restaurant with a delicious menu of authentic Portuguese cuisine. In Loulé, the Michelin-starred Henrique Leis offers incredible views along with a unique and fantastic tasting menu.

How to arrive in the Algarve?

The Faro Airport (FAO) is one of the busiest airports in Portugal and services international flights into the Algarve. Trains are also available from various cities in Portugal and several roads also provide access to the Algarve.

How to get around the Algarve?

Driving in the Algarve is a simple affair and rentals are easily available in Faro, where the airport is located. The most convenient road, spanning from the north of Lagos to the border with Spain, is the A22. It’s an electronic toll road that requires a transponder, which you can rent at the airport or any post office. An alternative is the N125 road, which is free but not as fast. Parking is well-signaled and available at varying rates, sometimes even for free.

The Algarve also benefits from a convenient train network, which allows you to take in the region’s beautiful natural landscape as you move around. A bus network, which will take you almost anywhere in the Algarve, is also available.

Additionally, some destinations are reachable by a ferry and cycling is a fun option for excursions or reaching close by beaches.

Thanks to our wide range of hotels in Algarve, we will make your stay a memory that you will never forget. Explore the region’s many beaches, sights, and cuisine from the comfort of NH Hotel’s accommodations and amenities.

Don’t hesitate, choose to visit the country’s southern coast. Portugal awaits!
