New York is divided into five districts: The Bronx, Staten Island, Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn. The NH Concierge’s Tips

Greenwich Village

This neighborhood in the west of Manhattan has become a residential area for the comfortably-off. Its origins go back to the early eighteenth century, and for this reason the neighborhood is considered a historic neighborhood of New York. Greenwich Village was the birthplace of the Beats in the 1950s, and from Washington Square Park, which forms the center of the area, you can set out for other places of western NYC.

SoHo

SoHo is the best example of gentrification in NYC. In former times it was a Bohemian neighborhood of lower middle-class artists who from 1960 onwards began to occupy old factories and industrial workshops; now it's a place to shop, eat in organic food restaurants and discover all the latest fashions or trends of New York City.

Upper East Side

The Upper East Side is an area of the city for high income residents, and has become one of the go-to neighborhoods in the area. Here you’ll find a selection of museums including the Metropolitan and the MET Breuer, one of the best in the neighborhood. Also, bear in mind that from here you can also enter Central Park, the most famous park in New York.

The High Line

If you want to enjoy a great green area, The High Line is a very interesting option, a park in the heights covering as it does some 2.3 square kilometers. It’s one of the most recent green areas in Manhattan, and was opened to the public in 2009, taking advantage of land from the old railway company.

Harlem

The origins of Harlem date back to 1658, when the Dutch founded a small settlement there. This was traditionally New York’s black neighborhood, and has become a place for fostering new trends. One of the places to visit is the Museum of the City of New York.

Times Square

This is one of the most-frequented areas for the inhabitants of New York because of the amount of stores to be found there. The giant ad screens have become one of the emblems of the city, and when elections are held in the country a wide range of people usually come this major commercial intersection in Manhattan to witness the count live.

If your aim is to discover the best neighborhoods of New York, from Manhattan you can get to wherever you want to be very quickly. Now you know what to visit to ensure that your visit to the Big Apple is an unforgettable one.
