When you think about Christmas you'll think about Santa Claus, Advent, travel, snow and spending time around the Christmas tree with the people who are important to you. But let's not forget the Christmas Markets, originated in Germany where they are called Weihnachtsmarkt. Their history goes back to 1384 when the first one was held in Bautzen.

Over the years, they became a tradition and are organised in many cities all over Europe. In many towns in Germany, Belgium, Austria and even Italy and Spain host the best one in Europe. They held and start in December during the advent season. Most of the markets are held in the city square. On the city square wooden open air stalls will be placed with the best food, drinks and seasonal items you can buy as a Christmas gift for under the Christmas tree.

When you visit one of the markets during the holiday season 2024, you definitely need to try some of the best local food. In Nuremberg you can try Rostbratwürste or what to think about a Belgium waffle with chocolate in Brussels.
