Free activities in Barcelona

Cut your costs the easy way: by discovering this fascinating city completely free of charge

For sightseeing, free guided walking tours are a great way to see every corner of the city, or you can get a guidebook and head out solo to admire the iconic architecture. Museum fan? Then go during the free entry periods, which are normally on Sunday evenings: all the culture, none of the cost! Lastly, for shopping, skip the center streets and opt for Barcelona’s affordable flea markets: open-air Els Encants, or artsy De mano en mano are great choices.

Getting around Barcelona

Barcelona’s public transport is a handy way to bring costs down: with buses and trains, as well as 10 metro lines which run late into the night (and even through the night on Saturdays), you’ll always find a way to get where you want to go, whether you stick to the city center or head further out. To save time as well as money, buy an Hola BCN! Travel Card for unlimited public transport for 2 to 5 days, or a T-10 Multi-person card for 10 journeys: it’s a lot cheaper than buying single-journey tickets every time.

Nightlife and music

A famed party city with enviable nightlife, the streets of Barcelona center come alive at night. While electronic music is big at clubs such as former-theatre Sala Apolo; Moog, close to Las Ramblas; and Input, one of the city’s biggest, there are also a range of venues catering for all tastes. For example, if you’re up for a laid-back vibe, head to Marula Café in the Gothic Quarter. Barcelona’s also big on live music with a varied calendar of live events, such as Primavera Sound, Sónar, and Mas i Mas, attracting festival-goers throughout the year.
