The background story
Along with her family and four others, Anne Frank took refuge from Nazi persecution in the hidden rooms of a house in Amsterdam in 1942. Betrayed by unknown informers the family was deported to the concentration camps. Anne's sister Margot died in 1945 and Anne passed away shortly afterwards. Only their father Otto Frank survived the camps and it was he who fought against the demolition of the house. After the war Anne's diary was discovered and it was first published in 1947. Anne Frank House museum opened in 1960.
