Manneken Pis Brussels: The city’s most famous statue

The Manneken Pis in Brussels is the most famous statue in the city, and also one of the cities most visited attractions. The statue, which depicts a small boy urinating into a fountain of water, has stood here since approximately 1618, and is much beloved by locals and visitors alike. Though it’s a fine piece of work, Brussels' Manneken Pis is noted more for the legends and stories that surround the statue, rather than its quality as a work of art. The statue plays an important role in the celebrations that take place throughout the year in Brussels; if you visit during one of these holidays, you may see the statue dressed in a special outfit or even spouting beer instead of water.

How to get to Manneken Pis in Brussels

The Manneken Pis statue is located in the city center and is easily reached. It is situated just two blocks from the town hall. Three metro stops - Anneessens, Central, and Bourse - are located nearby. Be aware that the statue is small, so you’ll need to be looking for it - you may miss it otherwise.

How to experience the Statue

The area surrounding the statue is filled with cafés and chocolate stores, so get your fill and watch the little boy do his thing. If visiting for more than a day, check back regularly and you may see the boy in a new costume. You can also visit Museum of the City of Brussels to see some of his retired costumes from history; there are more than 100 housed there.
